Legacy Learning Boone River Valley is providing a service to an audience within a 4-hour radius of Webster City by offering scheduled opportunities to participate in hands-on activities in classes taught in a relaxed setting. The classes foster appreciation of natural resources through art and nature studies and are taught by artists, natural resource professionals, and skilled craftspeople that love to share their skills by teaching others.
We support the concept of regional economic development focused on natural resources. To this end we engage many instructors from the local area and seek to provide teaching space for visiting instructors who expand our offerings with their talents in keeping with our art and nature theme. LLBRV, through it’s board of directors and many volunteers, actively participates in local arts and natural resource events and further promotes the inclusion of arts and natural resources in events hosted within the region.
It is our hope that Legacy Learning Boone River Valley will attract artists and learners to this area to live, work, and play.

History
Legacy Learning Boone River Valley (LLBRV) celebrates life-long learning through local natural resources by providing fun, affordable, creative, natural resource and arts based educational experiences. Natural resource professionals, skilled artisans, professional, traditional, and/or contemporary artists interested in leading workshops, seminars, or courses provide personalized and enriching learning opportunities. Educational experiences will vary from one to three days or more, depending upon the subject matter and depth of the topic. LLBRV markets its course offerings largely to adults with leisure time through direct and social marketing placements focused on specific market niches.
The research in a 2009 Feasibility Study supported by the Hamilton County Conservation Board, identified over 750,000 residents living within a 60-mile radius of Webster City, a positive transportation infrastructure and a natural resource infrastructure provided by one of the most scenic rivers in the Midwest, the Boone River Valley. In 2013, a small group of individuals began a pilot project under the name of Legacy Learning for a series of workshops in existing spaces. In 2014, the working group secured its Iowa non-profit corporate status as Legacy Learning Boone River Valley (LLBRV) and has received the IRS review and approval of its 501C3 non-profit application. An estimated 86 attendees participated in one or more classes in the first year.
For 2014, the Board of Directors set the goal of averaging one class per month, holding classes in various venues in Webster City and surrounding areas and establishing course credits from Iowa Central Community College. Credits for graduate work, undergraduate degrees and continuing education have been secured. In 2016, we set a goal of 6 classes per month, creating an Artist in Residence program and moving towards having a building of our own. 2019 finds us heading in new directions with the opening of the Briggs Woods Conference Center and ensuing corporate training opportunities.
